Description
Green rock layers are visible around the Delicate Arch Viewpoint from the Brushy Basin Member of the Morrison Formation.
The green color comes from reduced iron.
This iron is different because it formed in a low-oxygen
environment—like under water—which gave it a green color. Green vegetation compliments the landscape in early summer. The sediments of this green rock layer come from a humid era in Arches' Jurassic past, with rivers and floodplains.
